How to choose a vaccine by age and disease
Start with two questions: which disease you want protection from, and how old the person is. Each vaccine has a minimum starting age, and some schedules depend on the age at which they begin. A doctor decides what to give and when, based on the vaccination history.
On this page you can narrow the catalog with filters: disease, age, country of manufacture, free under the state program, and in stock. Each vaccine shows Tbilisi clinics, the price, and an availability note. If you cannot find the vaccine you need, remove some filters. The "in stock" filter, for example, hides vaccines a clinic brings in on order.
Which vaccines are free under Georgia's national schedule
Vaccines on the national schedule are given free of charge to children under 18 under the state program. There is no copayment for the vaccines. The program covers children who have been legally in Georgia for more than 3 months. Ask your local clinic where exactly the shots are given. The schedule by age:
- first 12 hours of life: hepatitis B; in the first days, still at the maternity hospital: BCG (tuberculosis);
- 2, 3, and 4 months: the combined six-in-one vaccine (diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis B, Hib, polio);
- 2, 4, and 12 months: pneumococcal vaccine (pneumococcal disease);
- 2 and 3 months: rotavirus vaccine (rotavirus);
- 12 months and 5 years: measles, rubella, and mumps (measles);
- 18 months and 5 years: booster against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, and polio;
- ages 10 to 12, girls and boys: human papillomavirus (HPV);
- age 14, then every 10 years until age 55: tetanus and diphtheria.
The 2026 state health program also covers some vaccines for adults: hepatitis B, tetanus and diphtheria, measles-rubella-mumps for the unvaccinated, and pneumococcal vaccine on a doctor's recommendation. HPV has a catch-up program for ages 13 to 45. Conditions, including for flu, change: the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) announces who is eligible each season.
Even when the vaccine itself is free, a private clinic may charge separately for the visit or examination. Ask about this when you book.
Which paid vaccines are commonly chosen beyond the schedule
Vaccines outside the national schedule are given for specific indications or at a family's choice:
- chickenpox: from 12 months; recommended first for health care workers, close contacts, and people with chronic conditions;
- meningococcal disease: the starting age depends on the vaccine; specifically recommended for travel to the African "meningitis belt";
- hepatitis A: from age 1; for travel to endemic areas, food industry workers, and people with liver disease;
- flu: from 6 months, yearly before the season;
- HPV outside ages 10 to 12: ask your doctor whether you fall under the 13 to 45 catch-up program.
Which of these you need depends on age, health, and plans such as travel. That is a question for a pediatrician or a general practitioner.
Does the country of manufacture matter
Vaccines approved for use go through quality control, so the country of manufacture does not by itself make a vaccine better or worse. On each card we show where batches are released, according to the manufacturer's official instructions. It is a note about origin, not a rating.
The choice between vaccines with the same protection depends on age, vaccination history, the schedule, and what the clinic has. If there are several options, discuss them with a pediatrician or general practitioner. They will take into account what you were already vaccinated with and which schedules allow switching products.
What to bring and what to ask the clinic
Bring an ID and a vaccination record or notes on past shots, if you have them. Before booking, ask the clinic a few questions:
- Is the vaccine in stock, or is it brought in on order, and how long is the wait?
- Is the doctor's visit or examination included in the price?
- How many visits are needed, and is a consultation required beforehand?
- Do they issue a vaccination record?
- What should you do if you have a fever or other symptoms on the day?
Clinics supply the prices in the catalog, and each offer shows its date. Confirm the price and availability with the clinic before you go.
